Karaoke Playback Formats
Karaoke has become a popular entertainment format and there are a variety of ways that users can enjoy singing to their favorite songs without having to overpower the main vocals. Nowadays you can use a variety of machines to sing karaoke without actually having to have a karaoke machine to do it. Here are just a few of the many karaoke playback formats available that consumers can use to enjoy themselves.
Consumers can download special computer programs that will work like a karaoke machine that utilizes the MIDI application on the computer to provide the instrumentation behind the song. It helps shrink the instrumentation files as well so they can be shared with other karaoke singers across the Internet. If you ever see a file with a .kar extension, this can be opened with a MIDI player for karaoke singing use. While there are also many online 'karaoke bars' in which players can sing and share their music all over the world, publishing companies are starting to crack down on these sites due to the question of fair use' and copyright violation.
Video game systems like the Playstation 2 offer their users karaoke games. 'Karaoke Revolution' is one of these games and users can read the lyrics on the screen and then receive their score based on the timing, pitch, and rhythm. Versions of this game were released for the Xbox system and players can use the Xbox Live service to download additional songs.
Video CDs are very popular overseas and they are used with VCD players that come with a built-in karaoke option. When played with a stereo system, one speaker will play the music with the original vocal track and the other will just play the music. Players can set these up to play the music-only track in order to have only their voice provide the lyrics.
Some mobile phones can also run MIDI files with the music of popular songs for karaoke use, but this type of karaoke is still in the beginning use stage and it is still to be seen whether it will take off. You can even find some cars and aftermarket in-car DVD players that are equipped with stereo systems that can be used as a karaoke machine.
Of course the most popular format for playing back karaoke CDs and cassettes is still the original karaoke machine. The more expensive machines have the capability to read the CD+G format discs which contain the lyrics and music specially encoded in the files. Microphone based karaoke machines are the most popular in the United States and simply connect to the user's television set for graphic display. These systems usually come with the many advanced features found in high-end machines. The CD+G, DVD, and VCD microphone based systems are the most commonly found and most popular type of home based karaoke units in the United States.
The variety of playback formats available for karaoke machines make them a fun item for parties and consumers can commonly find them available for sale in the electronics section of department and toy stores.
