Where Do I Find Karaoke In Public?

Karaoke establishments can now be found all over the world. In Asia, they are commonly referred to as a karaoke box. Basically this establishment is a room with karaoke equipment in which singers can rent for up to an hour and sing along with popular songs in privacy. Not a bar, not a restaurant, karaoke boxes are full-blown businesses that have multiple floors of rooms and thousands of musical selections to choose from. They can also be found in public establishments such as hotels and in professional businesses.

In North America and Europe, they are called karaoke bars. Karaoke bars - and restaurants, lounges, and clubs - all provide singers a public forum in which to show off their amateur talents. This is the most common way to find karaoke opportunities in the United States. Many of these establishments offer a karaoke night or karaoke competitions and award the best singer of the night with a small prize. These places have become so popular that there is a rotation of an hour between singers. Some establishments charge a small fee to get up and sing, but many of them are free, especially if they are serving food and drink.

In China, karaoke establishments are found in the normal way, but they have added an interesting twist. Mahjong-Karaoke Rooms are combination mahjong rooms where people, usually the elderly citizens of the nations, enjoy this tile game, and their teenage grandchildren and their friends can enjoy singing karaoke. It's an interesting solution to the usual teenage complaints of boredom and it allows two different generations of Chinese people to come together and actually spend a little time together.

Another place in which you can find a form of karaoke is at an amusement park, shopping mall, or other entertainment establishment in which a 'recording booth' is available. For a small fee, singers can step into these booths, select a song they which to sing, and have their vocals record with the music as a souvenir. The booths are semi-private, but many times the songs are piped out to the public area for everyone to enjoy. These types of booths are commonly found in amusement parks and beach boardwalks in the United States and a hit with the 15 to 25 crowd.

A good way to find a karaoke show in your area is check one of the many online lists of clubs. One of the foremost sites is on the Karaoke Scene website. You can find hundreds of clubs listed in the United States, Canada, and many other countries. They also to encourage you to add your favorite club to their list. You can search for a club near you at the Karaoke Scene Club Directory.
